Why ActionScript?

ActionScript is the programming language for Flash. Without it, a movie would play the same way every time. You can make things stop and go, appear, disappear or change.

Actions can be placed in keyframes on the timeline or associated with buttons, movie clips or symbols.

The actions panel allows you to type in your own code or drag in pieces of code from the toolbox.

Some common actions are:

Events are signals that can determine when a script should be executed. They usually have the syntax:

on(event) {action to perform;}

The most common events are mouse events like release and press or movie clip events like load or unLoad.
